Aurora has been temperament tested and obedience training has been increased to walking on the leash, beginning “Sit,” “Down,” and “No Bite,” come when called, climbing up and down steps, no jumping up and continued crating and jeep rides. She is growing fast and doing great!

Aurora is a sweet and gentle, yet playful, girl that is people oriented and loves to interact with toys. This pretty girl will have a medium to very wavy coat and has a temperament suited as an excellent family companion good for children or a couple wanting a more laid back puppy.

Seven Weeks Old

2/02/24

I went to see Dr. Bryant today for my vet check, fecal test and spay procedure. Everything checked great and I’m already up eating and running around playing. My stitches will be removed next week and I will be almost ready to meet my new family!

My training has continued and I’m getting pretty good at listening and obeying. Those kitties are a bit distracting but I’m really catching on!

Six Weeks Old

Five Weeks Old

1/26/24

This week my littermates and I started using the doggie door for playtime outside and our trainers have started conditioning us to the different moving objects that we will encounter when we go to our new homes. Getting used to shopping carts, wheel chairs, walkers, strollers, canes, etc. prepares us for any direction our training will take once we join our new famlies. We have also progressed from sitting in a running vehicle to short car rides every day and daily crate training has lengthened!

Puppy choice appointments have all been scheduled, the Okefeild team will reconfirm appointments and send last minute details and instructions early next week in preparation for puppy choice day. Individual pictures and temperament test results will be added to our pages by next Wednesday night so that families can look over all of the information before final choices are made!

Four Weeks Old

1/19/24

I am four weeks old and my little personality is starting to develop! My Teddybear coat is becoming full and I look pretty cute in the new video that Janet took of me and my brothers and sisters.

This past week I started beginner crate conditioning with a crate buddy so that we can slowly acclimate to sleeping in our crate. Brisa and Marisa have also been holding us more, offering gentle cuddling, holding while walking around and inspecting my body/mouth examination, all preparation for handling without fear when I go to my new home. Our trainers have also started conditioned emotional response exercises such as pulling my ears, hugging around my neck, ruffling my fur, handling and squeezing my paws and clipping my nails while eating Greek yogurt during each manipulation. I’m learning to show a positive response, instead of a negative one so that I can handle the bumps and tugs that I might encounter with young children or special needs children/adults with my new family. Brisa thinks I’m doing great in preparation for my upcoming temperament test and that my new family will love my sweet and playful nature.

Three Weeks Old

1/12/24

It has been a big week! My eyes are almost all the way open and I am beginning to respond to Brisa and Marisa when they take me through my daily training. A litter box has been added to my nursery room and I’m already searching it out to go potty in! I also finished up my Neurological Stimulation exercises and Brisa and Marisa have started the next phase of my training and conditioning. Holding, cuddling and walking around during this development stage helps me to learn to be secure when being carried and handled.

At 21 days my ears began to open and I can now hear. I don’t know much about science but research says that during the first week of hearing puppies have very little startle response to loud noises so Janet makes sure to take advantage of this time to begin conditioning me to accept these noises while I am eating. Doing something pleasant while I hear, startle and recover conditions me to ignore the scary noises that I will encounter in my future life. Daily sound conditioning will continue at each of my meals until I go home to my new family. I’m getting used to hearing:

• The sound of a running vacuum, force blow dryer and clippers

• Slamming doors, gates and dropped objects

• Honking horn and running car engine

• CD containing noises such as thunder, wind storm, alarm clock, lawn mower, power saw, buzzers, bells, children playing, thumps, babies crying, bumps and much more
  
  The next update will be at four weeks when I will receive my first bath, enjoy my new pictures!

Two Weeks Old

1/05/24

Over the past week, I have really gained a lot of healthy weight and my eyes have just started to open!

Brisa and Marisa are finishing up our Early Neurological Stimulation exercises and I am responding very well! Each day I accept the exercises a little bit better, this gives me the perfect start towards developing a temperament that can go in whatever direction you need, whether it be for therapy, diabetic/seizure alert or as an excellent family companion. My next litter update will be on next Friday, showing a video of me and my siblings at three weeks of age. Enjoy my new pictures, aren’t I pretty cute!

One Week Old

12/28/23

I am having a great first week with my littermates and am at the milk bar quite a bit (Janet says I’m just the right weight for my size!) and spend the rest of my time sleeping. Occasionally I will crawl around and spend time under the heat lamp, I’m living the life! Brisa and Marisa are taking great care of all of us and next week Janet will show you what we have been learning, until then, enjoy my new pictures!

Newborns Are Here!

12/22/23

Abbey gave birth to nine beautiful and healthy puppies! She had an easy delivery with Ron and Janet’s help and was given oxytocin to expel any retained afterbirth and penicillin to ward off infection. Mama is recovering nicely and puppies are being divided into two groups to nurse and so far everyone is doing great!

Tuesday Abbey will receive a bath then we will take some pictures of the new family and will begin having clients move their names to a particular color/gender group, she has cream, apricot, parti and black puppies. Expect to see the update here soon!

Pregnancy Confirmed!

11/28/23

Great news, Abbey has been confirmed pregnant by ultrasound! The vet saw about 7 - 8 puppies and said that everything looks great!

Abbey has been moved to our puppy nursery and we expect her to give birth around 12/26/23. Keep an eye on the website for an announcement of her birth, once the puppies are a week old, stabilized and strong, we will contact families on the reservation list. We will give each family the opportunity to reserve a particular color/gender or choice to remain on the list to consider the next litter.
